NearEU Module re-starts its Master Class series with expert – Mr. Bojidar Angelov Kolov
On May 6th, the NearEU Jean Monnet Module hosted its tenth Master Class, entitled “The impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the Orthodox world”, which was delivered by the expert – Mr. Bojidar Kolov (University of Oslo). The Master Class evaluated the relationship between the political discourse of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox discourse of the Russian government in light of the most recent geopolitical developments in the region.
Bojidar Angelov Kolov is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo. He obtained his master’s degree in “European Union – Russia Studies” from the University of Tartu. His areas of expertise include Church-state relations, religious nationalism, ecclesiastical governance, and political theology. His PhD project, “Church and State Entanglements in Contemporary Russia: Between Mutual Normativities and Distinct Agencies”, looks at such questions as: how is the mutual legitimation between these two actors made possible? What kind of subjectivities does this relationship enable, and what are the limitations it poses? The study will address these questions in light of the relational dynamic between “conservative” Russia and the “liberal West”. The dissertation is part of the “Values-based regime legitimation in Russia” (LegitRuss) project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
It was an honor and a pleasure to host Mr. Bojidar Kolov as the leader of our NearEU Master Class session. See more pictures from the master class in the gallery section.
