Jean Monnet Module NearEU offers two new courses in the spring semester, 2021
The Johan Skytte Institute is pleased to announce two brand new courses within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module NearEU for the Spring 2021 semester,“Illiberal Turn in Europe and Russia” and “EU Enlargement and Challenges of Wider Europe.”
How can the emergence, consolidation and diffusion of illiberal dynamics at the national level – including regime types, ideologies and values – effect the broader international order? Course (SVJS.00.023) “Illiberal Turn in Europe and Russia” will explore this question in different regional contexts of the EU, including Western, Central, Eastern, Southern and Nordic Europe, candidate countries, the EU neighborhood, and Russia.
In order to provide students with a specific and detailed understanding of the enlargement process and challenges related to the Wider Europe approach, the course (SVJS.00.024) “EU Enlargement and Challenges of Wider Europe” will help you develop a conceptual, analytical and theoretical framework to critically engage with the external dimension of the Europeanization process and regionalism in Europe and Eurasia. The course will start with a discussion of the historical and legal development of the enlargement process before moving to the related theoretical issues (including size, diversity, pace of change, reach, and external reactions) and different (and often competing) perspectives of regional integration in Europe and Eurasia.
The courses are open to all students of the Johan Skytte institute and advanced bachelor students and will earn you 6 ECTS. Register now to secure your spot! The following courses will be offered in the hybrid format, with the possiblity to follow the courses online!
Registration to the courses is open via the Study Information System, from December 15th until February 7th (for UT students) or February 22nd (visiting/exchange students).
